If I were president, I'd try to act like a regular guy. Keep in mind that anyone who runs for, and wins, the highest office in the land is a very unusual person. Not a regular guy at all. That's why it'd be so important for me to compensate for my inherent abnormality by acting like a regular guy whenever I could.
At baseball games, I'd wear what regular guys wear to baseball games. Shorts, t-shirt, sneakers. On a cool night I might wear jeans and a sweatshirt.
I'd never wear a suit and a tie. Would it ever occur to you to wear a suit and a tie to a baseball game? Would any regular guy, or even an irregular guy, ever be caught dead at a baseball game in a suit and tie? When I go to a baseball game straight from the office, I always try to bring a change of clothes. If I forget, I at least leave the coat and tie in the car.
Presidents have staffs to make sure they never forget anything. So why do our presidents persist in wearing suits and ties to baseball games?
Is there a presidential dress code that requires the POTUS to wear a suit and tie to all public events? Did they sew special bullet-proof fabric into the presidential dress slacks and dress shirt and tie? Is a homing chip embedded in the presidential tie clip? Does the president need to be ready at a moment's notice for an impromptu state visit behind home plate? Does the president need an excuse in case his first pitch lands in the dirt 30 feet short of home plate (that damn tie got in the way).
Or is there something in the presidential personality that rebels against the regular guy? It's almost like the president needs to demonstrate "I am not one of you" by intentionally over-dressing at a baseball game.
Of course, I'm not president and I never will be president. I am therefore more likely to be a regular guy than anyone who is or has been a president. My desire to appear like a regular guy is, therefore, probably related to the fact that I am a regular guy at some level. The president's desire to appear like anything but a regular guy is probably related to the fact that he is not a regular guy at any level.
Even the guy that OWNED a baseball team, fer cryin' out loud, looked dumb on the mound.
Though I believe he wore a dress shirt, slacks, and windbreaker instead of a suit and tie.

Maybe the throwing out of the first ball is just part of a busy agenda. Maybe the president has no intention of staying for the entire game. So the suit is meant to say, "Part-time baseball-thrower, full-time Leader of the Free World."
