I worked for a non-profit, which is admittedly quite different from sales...but when this issue came up for me, I gave out bonuses the same across the board. Everyone felt valued, and they were. (I know this from the ambience of the atmosphere.) Slackers were fired. If someone has an "off" year, well, that's human. If the job starts to not be right for them, then that's another matter. If you pay the same across the board, you eliminate the speculations and hurt feelings for the most part, and the only really bad guy is you. ;-) In my experience, it kept the team tighter without the jealousy, etc. People with larger salaries did not get larger bonuses. They already make more money anyway, so why??
